Vision add student computers screen displays no devices to add to the classroom.

Applies to:  Vision All versions, Vision Pro all versions

In Windows 10 version 1709 Microsoft disabled the service for SMB file sharing version 1 support.  This has caused the Microsoft Network Discovery service that computers use to build a list of devices on their network to stop working.  This was the service Vision uses to build classes so after that version was updated our list no longer populates.

You can see more information at this article as to why they disabled it and how to re-enable it if you wish:  https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f0a9ad80-d940-4483-818b-ec943f1dc420/network-discovery-not-working-after-win10-1709-update?forum=win10itpronetworking.

There is an alternative way to add devices to your classroom  that does not require the service they disabled. When you are on the screen where you add student devices to your class, there is an add button.  If you click it you can manually input student device names in the input box that comes up (with a comma or a space delimiter in-between names if you wish to add multiple at the same time) and this will add them to the class.

Once you have added students to your classroom, regardless of the method you used to add them, Vision should perform the same regardless of which method of adding devices you used.
